Hiatt Model 3154 Lightweight Hinged Handcuff, Nickel

(6 reviews) | Write a Review

Hiatt Model 3154 handcuffs are made of top quality, heavy duty steel with steloy construction, which makes for a sturdy but lightweight pair of cuffs. With a polished nickel finish, these cuffs maintain good visibility. The steloy construction makes the cuffs 40% lighter than the standard oversized pair. As an oversized set these cuffs are roughly 17% larger than the standard size of cuffs. Rather than the chain that is commonly found, these cuffs are connected by set of solid link hinges, providing greater subject control. Featuring the Hiatt Standard 18 tooth, 3 retainer bar system, positive swing through action, and built-in backloading affords this pair of cuffs with still further security and ease of use. Also included are two keys for out of the box, by the book, business.

I use a number of cuffs made by several manufacturers, but currently I’ve been using Peerless superlite cuffs with my Peerless 802C oversized double hinge cuffs, but I’ve been looking at replacing them with a pair of Tripoli hinge cuffs. I have a pair of S&W triple hinge cuffs, but they’re standard size, and I’ve grown accustomed to the oversized set I use for larger individuals. Hence why I’ve looked at these cuffs. I like the light weight of these cuffs, and they’re top tier quality. They’re also the same size as my Peerless double hinge cuffs. Now, out of the box they are a little stiff. Like others stated, the hinges are a bit tight, but I sprayed them down with Eezox, let them sit then wiped them down and started working the hinges. They’re considerably looser after just a few hours of playing with them, and I have no doubt will break in just fine with a little more Eezox and work. If you’re looking for a good, solid pair of oversized triple hinge light weight cuffs the buck stops here. Don’t hesitate. And the free engraving is a no brainer! Get a pair! You won’t be disappointed.

Ever since peerless came out with their ultralight linked cuffs I’d been looking for a hinged equivalent. I’ve seen ASP cuffs broken by muscle-bound suspects and the bows flex out of alignment at the worst possible moment so ASP is out of the question. The HIATT 3154’s check all the boxes: very lightweight (even lighter than ASP cuffs), they’re metal so they don’t flex out of alignment, and they’re tough. My only criticism is that the hinge is a little stiff so when you pull them out of your cuff case they don’t flop open with gravity like a heavy standard pair of hinged cuffs would. Nevertheless I would and have recommend these to peers.
